Yes, medical debt does affect your credit score. Specifically, if your medical debt remains unpaid, and/or goes to a medical debt collections agency (after being unpaid for between 90-180 days), it will then be reported by the collections agency to a credit bureau, where it will remain on your credit report for seven (7) years.

Before going on a credit report, medical debt first has to be reported by a credit bureau. Typically, this is done through a collections agency, which takes control of your medical debt 90-180 days after your medical bill remains unpaid.

Upon being reported by the credit bureau, medical debt typically stays on a credit report for seven (7) years. Therefore, even if your medical debt and bills are paid soon thereafter, your credit report will still include the medical collections.

Like all debts, medical debt has a shelf life. In other words, after seven years of being on a credit report, it will no longer show. However, even after the medical debt is no longer reported, individuals are still liable for their medical debt until it is paid in full.
